How I am relaxing- March
Lately, one of the ways I’ve been relaxing is by getting ready for the gardening season. Here in Colorado it’s still too cold to plant outside, so most of the work right now is happening indoors. Even though the garden beds are still resting under early spring weather, there is a lot happening in my mud room and near the windows where I’ve been starting seeds.
This year I started tomato and pepper seeds indoors so they will be strong enough to move outside around Mother’s Day, when the risk of frost has usually passed. Almost all of the seeds have already sprouted, which never stops feeling a little magical.
Right now the work involves carefully transplanting the tiny seedlings into slightly larger containers so they have room to grow. It’s delicate work. The stems are small, the roots are fragile, and you have to move slowly and gently so you don’t damage them. I’ve found that this process can be very meditative. It requires your full attention, and for a little while everything else fades into the background. You’re simply focused on the rhythm of scooping soil, lifting a tiny plant, settling it into a new container, and giving it a bit of water.
There’s something calming about nurturing these little plants while waiting for warmer days. It’s a quiet reminder that growth takes patience, time, and care.
If you’re interested in starting a garden but aren’t sure where to begin, I highly recommend Scratch Farm. Adriana can help with garden design, implementation, and maintenance, making it much easier to get started and keep everything thriving throughout the season.
